Itineraries

Day : 1 ARRIVAL AT AMRITSAR

Welcome to Amritsar, the city of the Golden Temple. On arrival at airport / railway station in Amritsar, you will be transferred to your hotel in Amritsar. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Amritsar.

Day : 2 VISIT TO THE GOLDEN TEMPLE / SHOPPING

In the morning, visit the famous Golden Temple, also known as the Sri Harmandir Sahib - the holiest abode for Sikhs all over the world. Most visitors to the Golden Temple, whether Sikh or not, are humbled by what is quite simply the most tangible yet spiritual place in the country. Arrive with a few good hours set aside and get mesmerized by its magical beauty. Make sure not to miss the 'kada prasad' (sacred pudding made at Gurdwaras) and 'langar' (community meal), while you are there at this famous shrine. After the visit, it is time to fill up your shopping bags and take back home famous articles of Amritsar including Amritsari jootis (footwear) and the famous Phulkari suits, saris, kurtas and bags. As your shopping spree ends, enjoy some of the best foods in Amritsar. Head to a famous eatery concocting delicious kulchas, a type of leavened bread, and a glass of lassi (traditional yoghurt drink), both of which notably belong to Amritsar. Overnight in Amritsar.

Day : 3 VISIT TO JALLIANWALA BAGH/ DHABA EXPERIENCE / BEATING RETREAT CEREMONY

After breakfast at the hotel, visit the sombre site of the notorious massacre of Indians under British rule at the Jallianwala Bagh gardens and the memorial that commemorates the political uprising of 1919. Hear the tragic story of lives lost and visit the memorial that preserves the portion of the wall with pellet marks along with the well into which hundreds desperately jumped to avoid the bullets. After visiting this historical place, head for lunch at a dhabha, an authentic local restaurant. (own cost) Proceed on a drive to Wagah (before 1630 hours), the only road border crossing between India and Pakistan and witness the elaborate 'Beating the Retreat' or 'lowering of the flags' ceremony between the Border Security Force of India and the Pakistan Rangers at sunset. Watch the troops march down the road, yelling and posturing to one another as bugles ring out and the flags are lowered in perfect unison with the setting sun. The spectacle ends with the folding of flags, followed by a curt handshake between opposing soldiers and the closing of the gates. Overnight in Amritsar.

Day : 4 DEPART AMRITSAR

Today, bid farewell to your Amritsar holiday as you are transferred to the airport/railway station in Amritsar for your onward journey.
